All are Welcome

The Epiphany of the Lord

Fr. Rowel Jose (Arjay) Abanto

While it might echo aspects of Christmas, the Feast of the Epiphany, meaning “manifestation,” holds a distinct and vibrant place in its own right, particularly for the Eastern Churches. It declares a powerful truth: the child Jesus is not confined to one land, but belongs to the entire world, offered as its Savior.

Just as the magi, representing diverse cultures and traditions, journeyed to present their gifts, so too does the world offer Jesus its rich tapestry of experiences, perspectives, and identities. And we, too, like pilgrims from all corners of the globe, bring Him the most precious gift of all: ourselves. Our faith, unwavering commitment, and boundless love are laid before Him, both in prayer and in our actions, especially towards those most in need.

But do we truly embody the welcoming spirit we often proclaim at Mass? Do we extend genuine hospitality to all, or do hidden biases and prejudices linger within our hearts and communities?

On Solemnity of the Epiphany, let us confront these questions with honesty. Let us implore Jesus to liberate us from the shackles of prejudice and discrimination. Let us strive to become what our very title proclaims: universal Catholics, embracing the beautiful diversity of humanity within the arms of our Church.

Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam!  For the greater glory of God!
