Revised Directives: All Masses Cancelled Until April 5, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

As per Bishop McGrattan’s instructions all masses across our Diocese have been cancelled until April 5, 2020. This is a move, not taken lightly, which will hopefully prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Bishop has released new directives for this time which can be read here. Please take a moment to read through the guidelines.

We understand that this can be distressing for you and your family. Please feel free to reach out (by phone or email) and we will try to assist you in whatever way we can.

The church will remain open for private and silent prayer. Please observe social distancing while in the parish. There will be no rosary or adoration. The office and Columbarium will continue to remain open.

We will still be offering the sacrament of reconciliation from 11:30am to 12:30pm weekdays (excluding Thursdays), Saturday 4:00pm to 6:00pm or by appointment. Please remain 1-2 meters away from others while waiting in line.

You can still join our Lenten virtual reflection series through “Word on Fire ENGAGE”. This is a great way to stay connected and grow in your faith during this time. Sign up here:

We also have FORMED available to you. This is a Catholic Digital Library full of resources to help you grow in your spiritual life. Our parish code is NRYGNH.

You can still stay connected to the Catholic community in Calgary by tuning in to live streamed masses:

  • Weekday Masses will be live-streamed from St. Peter’s Church
Visit:  https://st-peters.ca/live/ – Masses will be recorded and posted for playback.
  • Sunday Mass will be live-streamed from St. Mary’s Cathedral with the Bishop as celebrant. Link will be provided soon.

We also invite you to make a spiritual communion during this time of fasting from the Eucharist. When we receive the sacrament of Holy Communion, “we unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us sharers in his Body and Blood to form a single body,” (CCC 1331). Those who are unable to attend Mass or to receive the Sacrament are encouraged to unite themselves to Christ in prayer through what is known as a spiritual communion. As Pope St. John Paul II explained in his encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia (no. 34), when it is not possible to receive communion it is beneficial to cultivate in your heart a constant desire for the Sacrament. This prayer from St. Alphonsus of Liguori can help you to make this act of spiritual communion:

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
